Former Huami employees launch SATELLAI, a satellite pet tracker, at CES 2025

With the smart pet wearable market estimated at $3.69 billion in 2024, a new startup in the pet tech space is entering the scene with a dog tracker and collar that can directly link with satellite tracking without needing an LTE signal.

At CES 2025, SATELLAI presented its pet tracker and smart collar, which include features such as health monitoring, activity tracking, and even an AI coach (accessible through the companion app) to give guidance on training and pet care recommendations tailored to your specific dog.

The company was founded by Mark Mao, now CEO, who previously worked at Huami, the Chinese smart wearables company behind Amazfit, a Fitbit competitor. Mao conceived the idea for SATELLAI after he discovered that his dog had injured its leg while he was away. The smart collar is equipped with seven different sensors that monitor the pet’s health, including breath and heart rate, according to the company.

Although there is a wide array of pet trackers and smart collars available, SATELLAI says its offerings stand out in several ways. For example, the tracker uses a Qualcomm 9205S modem, letting it connect directly with satellite tracking without needing a terrestrial signal like LTE. This means it’ll continuously transmit a location, even in remote areas lacking nearby cell towers. The company claims this is the first dog tracker to offer this type of direct satellite connectivity.

The tracker also features a built-in solar panel, so it can recharge while the dog wears it. SATELLAI offers a harness that the tracker can attach to.

Additionally, the SATELLAI collar uses dual signal transmitters for L1 (which is the oldest GPS signal) and L5 (the most advanced) signals, which are meant to provide more accurate positioning in cluttered environments. The company explains that using two different bandwidths is helpful when the collar is around many objects — such as trees, walls, and so on — for signals to bounce off of.

It also offers features like virtual fencing and different types of correctional feedback to minimize barking or prevent dogs from walking up to specific areas, like a swimming pool or thorny rose bushes.
