Tata Technologies says ransomware attack hit IT assets, investigation ongoing

Tata Technologies, a technology and product engineering service company owned by Indian conglomerate Tata Group, has disclosed a ransomware attack that has forced it to suspend some of its services.

The Pune-headquartered company said Friday that the incident affected “a few of our IT assets” while its client delivery services “remained fully functional and unaffected throughout.”

“Further detailed investigation is underway in consultation with experts to assess the root cause and to take remedial action as necessary,” the company said in its filing (PDF) with the Indian stock exchanges.

Tata Technologies did not disclose specific details about the attack, such as the ransomware group’s identity or whether it paid a ransom demand.

Founded in 1989 as an automotive unit of Tata Motors and spun off as a separate company in 1994, Tata Technologies provides product engineering and R&D services to automotive and aerospace equipment manufacturers and heavy engineering companies across 27 countries. The company has 20 delivery centers and more than 12,500 employees, per its website.

Tata Technologies also acquired global engineering entities, including INCAT International, Cambric Corporation, and Escenda Engineering, to expand its global footprint before going for an Indian IPO in November 2023.

Tata Technologies did not immediately respond to TechCrunch’s questions.
